Why HLN Should Be Worried!
Let me first start by declaring my personal thoughts on Casey Anthony. Casey WAS/IS responsible for her daughter’s death in some capacity but was overcharged. Please do not let any of my the following thoughts confuse my opinion of her in any way. Casey Anthony is responsible for Caylee’s death but in an manslaughter/involuntary sort of capacity.
While everyone is screaming vengeance for Caylee, have you thought about why THIS case has peaked such interest? Two Words: Nancy Grace. Nancy has finally got what she has been angling/dreaming since the start of her career! Nancy wanted to be the center of attention in a high profile trial, where a child was the victim. She knows that is a formula for ratings success, and that is her sole responsibility as a TV personality… to generate RATINGS!!
Who could ever argue with Nancy Grace.. ? She “fights” for victims. What Nancy has done for herself professionally is aligned the mission of her show in a way that it is impossible to be criticized. She represents those who can not defend themselves or no longer can speak. Nancy took/covered this case as she does with many missing person cases from the jump, when Caylee was first announced missing. You ever notice that she rarely carries any minority missing cases? They always seem to be a pretty white coed or a child. Listen I am not here to criticize her efforts for those families that need help finding loved ones, but please pay attention to the ones they select. Any help finding missing person is a tremendous, but people go missing every day and rarely it is ever mentioned.
The danger that is involved in this type of media coverage is inherit, if the media “accused” person is innocent, then who is responsible for wrecking their life? If you guessed the media, I would say you were correct. For three straight years Nancy Grace has told America that Casey Anthony murdered her daughter Caylee. Yesterday Casey was found “Not Guilty” of any Murder 1 charges. This is where HLN is on the hook. Officially yesterday Casey Anthony was acquitted of murdering her daughter. Acquitted. So for the last 3 years Nancy Grace has been defaming Casey Anthony’s name for ratings and revenue. It got so bad in the end, she just simply refused to call her by name instead calling her “Tot Mom”. And to reward Nancy Grace’s efforts, HLN has the biggest ratings in the network’s history.
So what does this mean? The biggest comparison many of us would say in Casey Anthony’s trial to another would be OJ’s. This trial has rivaled the attention of OJ’s, but there is a HUGE difference. OJ had money. When OJ was found “Not Guilty” he had money that could help protect him from public. Later of course he would be found Guilty in a civil manner and ultimately back in jail on an unrelated matter. The trick here is, Casey Anthony is now the most hated woman in America and has zero money to protect herself. This is where HLN’s risk is greatest. I would predict a record civil lawsuit from Casey Anthony for defamation against both HLN and Nancy Grace. I think she can prove that her case was exploited by that network for financial gains and growth. Imagine having the number #1 show on TV and the talent is free? Want to hear the kicker? I think HLN will settle immediately for millions because they will not want to be the center of this lawsuit.
I would guess right now that Casey Anthony among women is the single most hated person on the planet. Number 2 would be John Edwards, then LeAnn Rimes, Chris Brown and Arnold. My challenge is to those who hold Casey in such contempt and hatred to ask yourself why and where did you learn your information? This was not the American Justice system failing us Americans… this was the media failing the American Justice System. There was such undo pressure placed on that Prosecutor’s Office by Nancy Grace’s show that they had no other choice but to go for a Murder 1 conviction… NONE. The Prosecutors were given such false hope by the media coverage, that they forgot they only had circumstantial evidence. If this was the same case without the media attention, they would have went after manslaughter charges or tried better to pleas her out. That is what the system does… I am not saying it is right, but that is how it works? So when you cried and wept yesterday because of Caylee’s justice, did you ask yourself how you got so emotionally attached to a little girl whom you never met, or how did you grow so much hatred for a woman you never knew? That is the scary part of media coverage.
Children are killed by parents constantly in this country and around the world. In fact here in North West Ohio, a man is in jail after his three boys disappeared. THREE… where is the Nancy Grace coverage of this man and these kids…? Just because the defendant is ‘attractive’ should not give us in the media the right to pick and choose what cases we champion. It is borderline racist on how we pick these cases in the first place.
My advice for the Anthony’s is to sue. I hate frivolous lawsuits, but this would not be. Hire an agent, get your book and movie right sold and take the money and rebuild your lives!
If I were Casey I would disappear from the planet, take your upcoming monies, change your name legally, dye your hair and move far far away. I would advice her to get right with what ever God she believes in. I know she was responsible for her daughter’s death and should be in prison for more time, but I was not the one who picked the Murder 1 charge for her to face.
